Abrahamic religions, specifically Christianity, were spread across the sea to enslave and assimilate racial minorities into the white world. Between 15th and 16th century Latin America and Asia, christianity was a main proprietor of Spanish, French and Portuguese colonization. This colonial tactic was used to release indigeous groups from their “savagery” and rewrite the religious icons of their respective cultures.

Using photography, this artwork explores a contemporary representation of powerful mythological figures through my under-represented models. My participants were asked to fill a questionnaire with information about their chosen figure, their church, a sacred object for their followers, a symbol, and primary colors for their icons. Each individual print represents one figure. 處染常淨 explores the tranquility and power of a Korean Kirin. Coven of the Emerald Moon portrays the vengeance of La Patasola. The Temple of Naagin describes the immortal existence of a Naagin. To investigate the iconography of religious institutions, I photographed my figures as if depicted within a rose window. Each image explores the narrative of these mythological figures. At a towering size of eight feet tall, the scale intends to confront and overwhelming the viewer in the presence of omnipotent non-white beings. My artwork forces the audience to acknowledge the lost histories, cultures and indigenous religious practices that I, and my participants, seek to restore.
